Can I use the honorarium to simply purchase materials for my students, and reduce costs that way?
Answer
No. Honorariums will be awarded after the work is completed, so you would not be able to purchase materials ahead of time. Also, the purpose of the honorarium is not solely to reduce costs for a current group of students, admirable as that goal is. The purpose is to reduce costs on an ongoing basis, and to make the OER used in a course available to others within and outside our institution. We want OERs that will be used year after year, and support students for the foreseeable future.
